The main features of the coin

The coin has a round form with a circular rim that stands out across the edge of both the obverse and reverse sides.

The obverse and reverse of the coin are of silver color.

The coin is milled with three groups of reeding.

The image of the obverse and reverse of the coin is determined by rotating it on its vertical axis at 180 degrees.

  • diameter: 21.5 mm
  • weight: 4.45 gr (± 3,5 %)
  • thickness: 1.8 mm
  • edge: milled with three groups of reeding.
 

Description:

Obverse:

  • in the foreground - the image of a twisted crescent moon with feminine face;
  • on the left side - part of the aurochs' head;
  • at the bottom - the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova;
  • in the exergue, on the right - the inscription "REPUBLICA MOLDOVA" in circle arc.

Revers:

  • in the foreground - the face value "1 LEU";
  • at the bottom - the year of issue;
  • on the background of the coin - elements of the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova;
  • at the top, in the exergue - the monogram with capital letters "R" and "M" (the acronym of the country’s name “Republica Moldova”) in latent image (hidden images, which are alternately visible by tilting the reverse side of the coin left and right);
  • on the surface of the digit of the coin a security feature is applied – the micro-engraving with the inscription “BNM”.
