Mr. Ion Sturzu, Deputy Governor of the NBM

 

 

Ion Sturzu was appointed as Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, member of the Council of Administration (now Executive Board) of the National Bank of Moldova by the Parliament’s Decision no. 186 of 12 July 2013.

Mr. Sturzu is born in 1966 in Izvoreni, Ungheni, Republic of Moldova. He graduated from the Economic and Financial College in Chișinău (1987), the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, Faculty of Finance and Credit (1993) and holds a Master’s Degree in management obtained at the Academy of Public Administration attached to the President of the Republic of Moldova.

At the date of his appointment, Mr. Sturzu had more than 26 years of experience in the financial-economic sector. Before becoming a Deputy Governor of the NBM, he held the position of member of the Court of Accounts of Moldova (2011-2013), simultaneously combing with the position of senior lecturer at the Free International University of Moldova, Faculty of Finance, Banks and Accounting.

Ion Sturzu started his professional activity in 1987 as economist and senior inspector, Financial Division, Ungheni.  

During the period 1990 - 1999, Mr. Sturzu held the positions of Head of Division, then Deputy Head of the State Tax Inspectorate, Ungheni.

In 1999-2008, Mr. Sturzu was Head of Indirect Tax Division, then Deputy Head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate.

In 2008, he served as Deputy Minister of Finance.

In 2008-2013, Ion Sturzu was senior lecturer at the Free International University of Moldova, Faculty of Finance, Banks and Accounting.

In 2008-2011, he also served as national consultant in the field of tax policy and administration within the "Project Implementation Unit of the World Bank Competitiveness Enhancement", Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova.

During his activity, Mr. Sturzu was member of the Editorial board of the periodical “Accounting and Auditing”. He is the author of a large number of articles, publications and participated in various economic conferences.

During his career, Mr. Sturzu has acquired extensive experience and expertise in the economic field.
