NBM releases new commemorative coins

National Bank of Moldova issued new six commemorative coins on 20 October 2014, minted in silver, as legal tender and for numismatic purpose.

Two of these coins complete the series of coins “Personalities” and are dedicated to the 75th anniversary since birth of the distinguished poet, novelist, playwright and journalist Dumitru Matcovschi and to the 100th anniversary of one of the most popular singers of the second half of the 20th century, Tamara Ciobanu. The coins are minted in proof quality silver, which is characteristic for the entire collection and have the face value of 100 Moldovan lei and 50 Moldovan lei respectively, with a circulation of 1000 and 500 copies, respectively, with a similar weight and diameter – 13 grams and 28 millimeter.

Series „Alley of Classics from „Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt” Public Garden in Chişinău” is completed by two coins minted in gold and silver, dedicated to the scholar, translator, traveler, geographer and diplomat of 17th century, Nicolae Milescu Spătarul. The first coin has the face value of 100 Moldovan lei, weight of 7.8 grams, diameter of 24 millimeters and with a circulation of 500 copies. The other coin has the face value of 50 Moldovan lei, weight of 13 grams, diameter of 28 millimeters and with a circulation of 500 copies.

This issue also supplements the series of “The Red Book of the Republic of Moldova” with two new commemorative coins. Both coins have the same characteristics – minted in silver, face value of 50 Moldovan lei, weight of 16.5 grams, diameter of 30 millimeters and with a circulation of 500 copies.
