The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, met the Swedish Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Katarina Fried, upon her inaugural visit to the NBM.
During the discussions, the significant role of the National Bank of Moldova in the European path of the Republic of Moldova was highlighted, including its involvement in the negotiation process.
Anca Dragu emphasized the NBM’s commitment to aligning the national regulatory framework with European legislation and best practices. “Thus, the NBM contributes to the achievement of the economic criteria for EU accession and, therefore, ensures a closer relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the EU. Moldova must become an EU member state”, the head of the central bank stressed.
Anca Dragu stressed that transparency and responsibility are key elements on her agenda, essential elements for ensuring the independence and integrity of the National Bank. The Governor also referred to the priorities in banking supervision, monetary policy, financial stability, payment systems, etc., and stressed the need to find financial intermediation solutions to enhance the business environment.
Her Excellency, Katarina Fried, conveyed Sweden’s openness to support Moldova on its European path.
In this context, both parties decided to enhance bilateral relations between the NBM and the Central Bank of Sweden, including through the implementation of joint projects aimed at strengthening the financial system of the Republic of Moldova.
