The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is launching consultations with Ukrainian institutions to find a solution for Ukrainian refugees holding hryvnia. Moldovan licensed banks will also be involved in this process to identify a solution as soon as possible, so that any hryvnia stocks could be transported to Ukraine to be converted into freely convertible currencies.
The NBM is undertaking enhanced measures to supervise the activity of foreign exchange entities which, under the law, establish independently the buying and selling rates of foreign exchange, being obliged to comply with legal requirements.
Meanwhile, the NBM calls on market players to show understanding and compassion for Ukrainian refugees on the territory of the Republic of Moldova to provide the much-needed support at this difficult time.
