The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Ms. Anca Dragu, held a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, which focused on topics related to interinstitutional cooperation and the role of infrastructure projects in the process of the Republic of Moldova's European integration.
Infrastructure projects lead to sustainable economic growth, stimulating both national and international trade, while fostering local and regional development. The banking system plays an active and significant role in the implementation of infrastructure projects and, consequently, in regional development.
The discussions were attended by Mr. Vladimir Bolea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, as well as Mr. Mircea Păscăluță, State Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova. The Romanian delegation was composed of Mr. Irinel Scrioșteanu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Mr. Mihai Staicu, Chief of Staff.
The dialogue focused on the importance of developing and implementing infrastructure projects as a strategic pillar of regional connectivity, emphasising their role in strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s irreversible path towards European Union membership. Participants highlighted the need for effective coordination between public institutions to support investment, mobility, and economic integration.
In this context, Ms. Anca Dragu stressed the importance of dialogue between key state institutions in the process of modernisation and European integration: “European integration is a process that goes beyond the boundaries of any single sector. Infrastructure projects, regional connectivity, and financial stability are mutually reinforcing. Interinstitutional dialogue is essential to ensure coherence, predictability, and trust in this shared journey.”
During the meeting, the symbolic dimension of institutional cooperation was also highlighted, with the Romanian delegation praising the initiatives of the National Bank of Moldova to immortalise historical events and significant moments through commemorative and jubilee coins, as an expression of institutional memory and the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
