High-level meeting between the NBM and the NBR: Strengthened cooperation for the European future of the Republic of Moldova

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, had a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Cosmin Marinescu, who was in Chisinau as a special guest at the international conference "New Technology for Old Markets," organised by the NBM in partnership with the NBR and the Bank of France.

The discussions provided an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation, based on the Cooperation Agreement between the two central banks, which aims to develop financial and banking systems in line with European standards.

The concrete results of the technical assistance provided by the NBR in recent years were also highlighted, including through Twinning and TAIEX projects, which supported the NBM in the process of alignment with European standards and in preparing the Republic of Moldova's accession to SEPA – the Single Euro Payments Area. The cooperation between the two institutions focused on strengthening regulatory and supervisory capacities, as well as developing communication and financial education through programs dedicated to young people, academia, and economic journalists, such as the "School of Modern Finance."

During the discussions, Ms. Anca Dragu emphasised the importance of strategic cooperation with the NBR in advancing structural reforms, strengthening institutional resilience, and consolidating Republic of Moldova's European path. In turn, Deputy Governor Cosmin Marinescu reaffirmed the NBR's support for joint projects and commended the NBM's achievements in the area of financial stability and payment infrastructure modernisation.

The NBM cooperates with other central banks through technical assistance and bilateral agreements, which strengthen financial supervision, monetary policy, payment infrastructures, and financial system stability, supporting the modernisation and European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

For the first time, the Republic of Moldova is hosting a major international conference dedicated to the future of finance in emerging markets. The event, entitled "New Technology for Old Markets," is organized by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), in partnership with the National Bank of Romania and the Bank of France, and is taking place in Chisinau in a hybrid format (physical and online participation).
