National Bank of Moldova puts new commemorative coins into circulation

Starting from 26 December 2025, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is launching into numismatic circulation two commemorative coins: “Petre Teodorovici - 75 years since birth” [1], which completes the series “Personalities”, and “80 years since the establishment of the “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova” [2], which completes the series “Others”.

The coin “Petre Teodorovici - 75 years since birth” is dedicated to the great composer and light music singer, Master Emeritus of Arts and holder of the “Glory of Labor” Order, who created and performed numerous songs that became true hits of the time, including “Santa Maria Maggiore”, “Scrisul nostru”, “Veniți acasă”, “Ultima oră”, “Vara la Soroca”, and many others. These melodies touched the hearts of the public, expressing with sensitivity and power deep feelings of love for the country. Through his works, Petre Teodorovici contributed enormously to the consolidation of Romanian cultural heritage.

According to its technical features, the coin is minted in silver, has a nominal value of 50 lei, and a mintage of 500 pieces. The designer of the commemorative coin “Petre Teodorovici - 75 years since birth” is Eugeniu Boico.

The coin dedicated to 80 years since the establishment of the “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova pays tribute to the country’s sole public higher education institution specialised in the training of doctors and pharmacists, in accordance with the highest European standards. The University is named after the distinguished scientist Nicolae Testemițanu, in honor of his remarkable contribution to the development of medicine. For its outstanding achievements in the field of education and health, the institution was awarded the “Glory of Labor” Order in 2005 and the Order of the Republic in 2015.

The coin is minted in silver, has a nominal value of 50 lei, and a mintage of 1,000 pieces. The designer of the commemorative coin “80 years since the establishment of the “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova” is Svetlana Mînăscurtă.

The coins are enclosed in transparent methacrylate capsules and presentation cases, accompanied by certificates of authenticity displaying the facsimile signature of the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

The certificates include a QR code that provides direct access to information on the coins’ features, available on the official website of the National Bank.

The commemorative coins are offered for sale to the general public both by the National Bank of Moldova, on the basis of online applications submitted in the “Coin” section of the institution’s website, and through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova. Licensed banks are entitled to set the selling price of jubilee and commemorative coins independently, provided that the price does not exceed the level established by the National Bank of Moldova by more than 3%.
