The Memorandum of Understanding between the National Bank of Moldova and the Bank of Lithuania (Lietuvos bankas) was signed on 22 August 2017, during a working visit of NBM delegation to Vilnius.
The document signed by NBM Governor, Sergiu Cioclea, and the Bank of Lithuania Governor, Vitas Vasiliauskas, stipulates the establishment of a broad framework for cooperation and information exchange between the institutions. By signing this memorandum, the National Bank of Moldova expresses its willingness to benefit from the experience and technical assistance of the colleagues from Lithuania, who have passed through banking reorganization and institutional strengthening processes similar to those from Moldova at the beginning of this decade.
During the visit, NBM delegation participated in meetings with the management members of the Bank of Lithuania and working sessions with the directors and members of the main subdivisions of the Bank of Lithuania. The officials discussed about the collaboration between the institutions in financial sector supervision, payment systems development, international reserves management, financial stability, economic researches, financial communication, regulation, etc.
One of the key priorities of the NBM, aligned with the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union (EU), signed on 27 June 2014, is the closer cooperation with EU national central banks. The signed memorandum opens new opportunities to extend the technical assistance in the banking field and to attract the expertise of the EU central banks.
