The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Ms Anca Dragu, together with members of the NBM Executive Board, held a meeting with a delegation from the National Bank of Romania (NBR), led by First Deputy Governor Leonardo Badea. The main topics discussed were the expansion of bilateral cooperation, the strengthening of international dialogue, and integration into global financial structures.
The Governor highlighted areas with potential for strengthening inter-institutional cooperation. In this context, the continuous support provided by the National Bank of Romania in advancing the Republic of Moldova’s European path was noted.
The parties also acknowledged the close and sustained cooperation in the areas of technical assistance and financial education, including through joint programmes and exchanges of best practices. At the same time, they reiterated the importance of strengthening the partnership with a view to organising joint events on an annual basis, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
The parties emphasised the importance of developing a lasting partnership based on professionalism, trust and shared objectives, in support of financial stability and the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.
“Partnership with the NBR reflects our shared commitment to strengthening institutions, aligning with European standards and integrating the Republic of Moldova into the international financial architecture. The Republic of Moldova’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) has brought direct benefits to citizens and the business community, through faster, safer and more accessible payments. The experience shared by our colleagues at the NBR helps us move forward rapidly in the European integration process. We appreciate the support provided and the willingness to jointly develop major projects, such as the second edition of the annual International Conference in Chișinău or educational programmes for young people, such as the School of Modern Finance,” Ms Anca Dragu emphasised.
The institutional relationship between the two central banks, underpinned by the Cooperation Agreement between the National Bank of Moldova and the National Bank of Romania, makes a consistent contribution to aligning the Republic of Moldova with European standards in key areas of the financial sector.
