The NBM delegation participated in the IMF and World Bank Constituency Meeting

As part of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), a delegation of the National Bank of Moldova, led by First Deputy Governor Petru Rotaru, participated in the meeting of the IMF and World Bank Constituency, of which the Republic of Moldova is a member.

The event was chaired by Pierre Wunsch, Governor of the National Bank of Belgium, who highlighted recent developments and the strategic development prospects of the two international financial institutions in an international environment marked by heightened volatility. At the same time, the Executive Directors of the IMF and the WB representing the Constituency, Jeroen Clicq and Eugene Rhuggenaath, respectively, also reviewed the institutions’ activities.

The discussions also focused on recent economic developments in the Constituency’s member states, policy priorities for the period ahead, and the main topics on the agenda of the Annual Meetings. The participants exchanged views on coordinating common positions within the Executive Board and reiterated the importance of ongoing dialogue within the Constituency as a mechanism for effectively representing the interests of member states in the work of the IMF and the WB.

“Cooperation with the IMF has helped us promote reforms in various areas, including the financial sector. We have succeeded in improving banking regulation and supervision, ensuring a favourable framework for the development of the banking sector. The support provided by the IMF contributes to the promotion and implementation of economic reforms, which are reflected in an improved quality of life for citizens,” stated Mr Petru Rotaru.

The Republic of Moldova is a member of the IMF and WB Constituency led by Belgium and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Constituency serves as a forum for coordinating positions among member countries, facilitating the adoption of common approaches to global economic issues and strengthening multilateral cooperation. Its members include Andorra, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Georgia, Israel, Luxembourg, the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine.
