NBM Governor, Anca Dragu, awarded at the Future Economy Gala in Bucharest for Leadership in integrating the Republic of Moldova into SEPA

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, was awarded the Prize for Leadership in the Integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European SEPA payment system at the Future Economy Gala - Women & Men CEOs Leading the Romanian Economy, a prestigious event held in Bucharest and organized by ZN PR & Events.

The distinction, awarded to the Governor of the NBM by Ramona Chiriac, Head of the EU Representation in Bucharest, is a recognition of her decisive contribution to a historic moment for the Republic of Moldova: the acceptance into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), a major step in the process of European financial integration. With this achievement, citizens and companies in the Republic of Moldova will be able to make transfers in euro under conditions similar to those in the European Union: fast, secure and at low costs.

"Joining SEPA is more than a technical achievement, it is a clear statement of belonging to the European family. This award reflects the vision and determination of a team that is building, day by day, a modern, secure and financially interconnected Moldova with Europe", said Ms. Anca Dragu in her acceptance speech.

At the same time, the Governor underlined that the Moldovan banking system is currently in a favourable position: "It is stable, well capitalized, and in the process of alignment with European standards. We see important opportunities in increasing financial intermediation and accelerating the digital transformation of services. Moldovan banks have taken important steps in this direction - from high-performing mobile applications to instant payments through the MIA system, which is already used by one in three banked individuals in Moldova. But at the heart of all these transformations are the people - the professionals who are leading, innovating and building the country's economic future."

At the gala, the second edition of the magazine "Future Economy - Women & Men CEOs" was also launched, which includes an extensive interview with the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova. In the pages of the magazine, Anca Dragu discusses the National Bank’s priorities in the EU accession process, the impact of the decision to adopt the euro as the reference currency, as well as the active role of women in financial leadership. The interview reflects the Governor's strategic vision for modernizing the banking sector, strengthening stability and promoting excellence in governance.

The Governor emphasized that the NBM is directly involved in three key chapters of the EU accession negotiations: free movement of capital, financial services, and economic and monetary policy. Accession to SEPA was made possible thanks to a sustained institutional effort, in which close cooperation with the National Bank of Romania played a key role.

The Future Economy Gala is a flagship event dedicated to leaders in business, administration, and the financial sector, bringing to the forefront authentic models of leadership and best practices in corporate governance. The gala celebrates the outstanding contributions of those who are transforming the regional economy through vision, innovation, and accountability.
