The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms. Anca Dragu, held a meeting with Her Excellency Iwona Piórko, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
The discussions highlighted the role of the NBM in Moldova's EU accession process and the progress achieved in modernising the financial sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the successful integration of the country into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), which enables faster, safer and more accessible euro transactions for both citizens and the business community.
"This year's progress, from SEPA integration to legislative alignment, demonstrates that the Republic of Moldova is firmly advancing on its European path. The accession process means stability, economic opportunities, and a secure environment for citizens. We continue on this path with responsibility, integrity, and determination," said the Governor of the NBM.
In this context, the active involvement of the NBM in the negotiation chapters on financial services, monetary policy, and the framework necessary for the efficient functioning of the European internal market was highlighted. "The reforms promoted by the National Bank contribute to strengthening financial stability, creating a predictable economic environment, and improving the well-being of citizens," emphasised Ms. Anca Dragu.
The dialogue also focused on advancing Moldova’s European integration process through projects such as Twinning, TAIEX, and other technical assistance instruments provided by the European Commission. Cooperation with institutions such as DG FISMA, the European Central Bank, the European Banking Authority (EBA), and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) remains a central pillar in Moldova's preparation for EU accession.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing a partnership that will support Moldova's closer ties with the European Union.
