NBM Governor in dialogue with the French Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova: stability, reforms and European integration

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, met today with the Ambassador of France to the Republic of Moldova, Her Excellency Dominique Waag. The discussions focused on the macroeconomic situation, bilateral cooperation and the active role of the central bank in the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova.

The Governor emphasized the NBM's commitment to closely monitoring domestic and external economic developments and its ability to intervene through monetary policy measures to maintain financial stability. She also highlighted the positive impact of the harmonization of the legislative framework with EU standards: "The reforms implemented in this process have contributed to strengthening the regulatory framework and to improving the assessment and supervision mechanisms in the financial sector," said Ms. Anca Dragu.

The head of the central bank recalled the progress marked by the recent inclusion of the Republic of Moldova in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), emphasizing that this achievement reflects the country's firm commitment to advancing steadily on the path of European integration.

The NBM Governor highlighted the increasingly close cooperation with the Banque de France: "The Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions, signed earlier this year, is already generating tangible results in strategic areas such as technical assistance provided to the NBM on cash management, the digitalization of operational processes and the modernization of IT infrastructure. Investing in the development of institutional capacities means strengthening the skills necessary to support the growth of a sustainable, resilient and fully integrated economy in the European area," stated Anca Dragu.

In this context, Anca Dragu appreciated France's openness to expanding bilateral cooperation and its continued support for the development of the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the economic missions of the French Embassies in Athens and Bucharest, respectively.

Recently, a delegation from the NBM, led by Governor Anca Dragu, made an official visit to France, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in the context of Moldova's accession to the European Union. "On its European path, the Republic of Moldova needs reliable partners, and France represents a model of excellence," concluded the NBM Governor.

The Republic of Moldova and France established diplomatic relations in 1992 and have since developed partnerships in many fields: economy, science, defence, investment, agriculture, transport and others.
