The Board of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), represented by Governor Anca Dragu, held a bilateral meeting with Mr Sannisith Sum, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia. The NBM Board expressed its appreciation for the participation of a representative of the National Bank of Cambodia delegation in the annual international conference organised by the National Bank of Moldova in partnership with the National Bank of Romania and the Banque de France, held in Chișinău on 1–2 October.
The discussions focused on the process of negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding between the two central banks, aimed at establishing a formal framework for cooperation, coordination and information exchange. The proposed areas of cooperation cover monetary policy and central banking operations, foreign exchange operations, payment systems, banking supervision, macroprudential policy and financial stability, financial technologies and innovation, as well as economic research and statistical methodologies.
“Deepening cooperation with international partners and building bridges for dialogue with partner central banks are concrete steps in our efforts to anchor the National Bank of Moldova within global financial networks. Our partnership with the National Bank of Cambodia, both bilaterally through the Memorandum of Understanding and through other joint initiatives, confirms our openness to innovation, the exchange of best practices and alignment with the highest standards of central banking,” said Ms Anca Dragu.
At the same time, the NBM reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional independence – a priority for maintaining the credibility of monetary policy and a fundamental requirement in the process of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, with the national legislative framework being continuously improved to ensure full alignment with the EU acquis.
The meeting took place in the context of the second edition of the international conference dedicated to policy coordination for European convergence, entitled “Fiscal space and monetary anchoring under accelerated integration”. The conference aims to promote the exchange of experience among financial-sector specialists and provide a forum for presenting and discussing research papers, thereby strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s position as an active partner in international financial dialogue.
