NBM signed a collaboration agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the development of digital financial services

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, signed a cooperation agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, in Washington on the development of digital financial services. The document was signed by Anca Dragu and Alfonso García Mora, IFC Vice President for Asia and Pacific.

The meeting between the management of the National Bank and the World Bank delegation was also attended by the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Region, Antonella Bassani.

The NBM Governor said that digital financial services have the potential to reduce transaction costs, increase processing speed, security and transparency. This year, the NBM has successfully launched a national project - "MIA Instant Payments", which is already enjoying great popularity throughout the Republic of Moldova, with almost 400 000 users, both individuals and economic agents.

"This project is more than a modernization, an alignment with the requirements of society at European level, it is a mechanism to increase the prosperity of the Republic of Moldova and, at the same time, to reduce economic inequality. Access to fast and secure payment services contributes to increasing financial inclusion", Anca Dragu added.

The meeting discussed topics related to the evolution of the Republic of Moldova - the macroeconomic framework and medium-term prospects, the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) in Moldova, the financial inclusion strategy, the implementation of the IMF Program, as well as the financial support provided by the World Bank.

The meeting took place on the margin of the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, USA. These meetings provide a platform for member countries to exchange experiences and to continue the dialog on economic and financial development priorities.
