The second meeting of the Steering Committee of Twinning Project on strengthening the National Bank of Moldova's capacity in the field of banking regulation and supervision in the context of EU requirements took place on 22 January 2016. The meeting was attended by experts from the NBM, central banks of Romania and the Netherlands, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, who discussed on the progress achieved in the second quarter of project implementation and it was found that:
- The project is carried out in accordance with the initial work plan approved as an annex of the Twinning contract.
- During the reporting period, there were conducted 14 activities from the work plan, 9 of which were related to the development of the legislative/ regulatory framework.
- Following the assessment of the national legislation framework, in the context of its compliance with the provisions of the EU regulation of banking activities, there have been identified the national options on which a decision will be taken from the perspective of the supervisory function.
- The questionnaire for the impact assessment of Basel III implementation on the banks capital was completed, which will be sent to banks for filling in by mid-February.
- The draft of the NBM’ Strategy for implementing the BASEL III standards under the European regulatory framework (CRD IV) has been completed, which will be submitted for approval to the Executive Board of the NBM in the near future.
