Starting with 28 December 2020, the National Bank of Moldova puts into circulation as a means of payment and for numismatic purposes the commemorative coin "My doctor - my hero [1]".
This coin draws our attention and reconfirms a scale of values of the highest moral and professional probity that medical workers show at any moment, saving people's lives, with the sacrifice of their own lives, said in an online briefing the NBM Governor, Octavian Armașu.
„At the same time, the openness of citizens to contribute to the creation of the design project expresses a deep gratitude and also a responsibility that everyone bears and must feel to mitigate the epidemiological danger", said Octavian Armașu.
The Governor of the central bank, on behalf of the institution, as well as on his personal behalf, expressed sincere thanks to those who give priority to saving people’s lives and even after consider their own safety. As a sign of gratitude, the National Bank of Moldova will transmit some of these coins to the doctors from the institutions that, at the beginning of the pandemic, were in the front line, and which, in a total uncertainty, lack of experience or treatment protocol, fought for people's lives. These are the Institute of Emergency Medicine, the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases „Toma Ciorbă" and the Republican Clinical Hospital „Timofei Moşneaga", as well as the COVID-19 Centre Chisinau created along the way to be now in the front line.
The commemorative coin "My doctor-my hero" is made of silver, is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and in a presentation box, being accompanied by a certificate of authenticity written in Romanian and English.
The commemorative and jubilee coins issued by the National Bank are traded through the licensed banks of the Republic of Moldova.
