National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

Șeful Delegației UE în Republica Moldova, Peter Michalko, a discutat cu guvernatorul BNM, Sergiu Cioclea, și viceguvernatorul Cristina Harea despre mersul reformelor din sectorul bancar și acțiunile ce urmează a fi întreprinse în cadrul Acordului de Asociere RM-UE.
Șeful băncii centrale a apreciat sprijinul european în implementarea cu succes a proiectului Twinning și inițierea unui nou proiect de asistență în domeniul financiar-bancar. În acest context, guvernatorul BNM a apreciat înalt asistența oferită băncii centrale a Moldovei de către consilierul de rang înalt al UE, Aldona Jociene, în domeniul reglementării și supravegherii bancare.
La rândul său, Peter Michalko a reafirmat deschiderea UE pentru a oferi în continuare Băncii Naționale suportul necesar desfășurării reformelor și a menționat importanța realizării tuturor angajamentelor luate de autorități în cadrul programului cu FMI și cu Uniunea Europeană pentru redobândirea credibilității BNM urmare crizei bancare. În acest context, Peter Michalko a subliniat importanța investigării fraudelor din sectorul bancar. Oficialul european a apreciat progresul țării noastre în crearea unui cadru de reglementare modern de supraveghere aliniat la standardele UE (Basel III) și a insistat asupra necesității de a fortifica în continuare independența și competențele de supravegere ale BNM care au menirea să asigure stabilitatea financiară și transparența sectorului financiar-bancar în interesul tuturor cetățenilor țării.
Aceasta este a doua vizită a șefului Delegației UE Peter Michalko la BNM. La 20 octombrie 2017, Banca Națională a găzduit o ședință comună cu șefii misiunilor diplomatice din țările UE în Republica Moldova, la care a participat și ministrul Finanțelor, Octavian Armașu. Evenimentul la care s-a discutat despre evoluțiile macrofinanciare și situația din sistemul bancar a avut loc după ședința anuală a FMI și Grupului Băncii Mondiale.
