National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

National Bank of Moldova is responsable for the compilation of the balance of payments, international investment position and the statistics of the external debt of the Republic of Moldova.

Делегация Республики Молдова под руководством министра финансов, Октавиана Армашу, и президента НБМ, Серджиу Чокля, осуществила визит в Вашингтон для принятия участия в весенних заседаниях Международного валютного фонда (МВФ) и Группы Всемирного банка, которые проводились в период 16-22 апреля 2018.
В рамках визита представители Министерства финансов и Национального банка обсудили с высокопоставленными лицами МВФ, Всемирного банка, Международной финансовой корпорации (IFC), Европейского банка реконструкции и развития (BERD) и Европейской комиссии внедрение экономических и банковских реформ в Республике Молдова.
В особенности, молдавская делегация встречалась с Митсухиро Фурусава (замиститель директора МВФ), Полом Томсеном (директор Европейского департамента МВФ), Энтони де Ланнуа (исполнительный директор МВФ по Молдове), Беном Келмансоном (руководитель миссии МВФ по Молдове), Кристалиной Георгиевой (исполнительный директор Всемирного банка), Сирилом Мюллер (вице-президент Всемирного банка по Европе и Центральной азии), Франком Химскерк (исполнительный директор Всемирного банка по Молдове), Сату Кахконен (региональный директор Всемиронго банка по Беларуси, Украине и Молдове), Джорджиной Бейкер (вице-президент IFC по Латинской Америке, Караибам, Европе и Центральной Азии), Джейсоном Бретт Пелмар (директор IFC по Молдове, Украине и Беларуси), Пьером Московиси (европейский комиссар по экономическим и финансовым вопросам), Еленой Флорес (директор Европейской комиссии по международным экономическим отношениям), Аленом Пилу (вице-председатель Европейского банка реконструкции и развития, ответственный за банковский сектор), Бетси Нелсон (директор BERD, ответственная за риски и соответствие), Франсисом Малиж (директор BERD по Восточной Европе и Кавказу), и другими.
Октавиан Армашу и Серджиу Чокля приняли участие и в весеннем заседании стран-участников МВФ и Группы Всемирного банка под председательством Бельгии и Голландии, которое объединяет 15 стран региона Бенилюкс, Восточной Европы, Кавказа и Израиля.
Также в Вашингтоне молдавские официальные лица провели переговоры с представителями Казначейства США и Государственного департамента, сообщив о продвижении программы с МВФ и об областях сотрудничества в рамках технической помощи, оказанной американской администрацией.
В молдавскую делегацию также вошли Вероника Врагалева, заместитель министра финансов, Владимир Мунтяну, первый вице-президент НБМ, и Кристина Харя, вице-президент Национального банка.
