National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

Banca Națională a Moldovei (BNM) vine cu precizări urmare unor articole apărute în presa locală cu privire la decizia Băncii Centrale Europene (BCE) de stopare a producerii și emiterii bancnotei de 500 de euro către finele anului curent.
Bancnota va rămâne un mijloc legal de plată și își va păstra valoarea și după anul 2018. Aceasta va putea fi schimbată în continuare la unitățile de schimb valutar de pe teritoriul Republicii Moldova, inclusiv la băncile comerciale, și utilizată pentru efectuarea plăților în țările zonei euro.
Decizia BCE a fost luată în urmă cu doi ani pentru a împiedica activitățile ilicite în care se utilizează bancnota de 500 de euro. Totodată, este planificată introducerea bancnotelor de 100 și 200 de euro din seria „Europa”. Bancnotele de la 5 la 200 de euro vor fi păstrate în circulație.
Bancnotele din seria „Europa” sunt introduse treptat, pe parcursul mai multor ani, în ordine crescătoare. Primele patru bancnote din noua serie (5, 10, 20 și 50 de euro) au fost puse în circulație în anii 2013, 2014, 2015 și, respectiv, 2017.
