The First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Mr. Vladimir Munteanu, participated today at the ceremony of the students’ scientific panel “The Monetarist Youth” of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (AESM), which was organized today on the occasion of the award of prizes and diplomas of excellence at the 2019 Gala of Awards for students’ scientific researches in the field of currency and credit.
The best students received the commemorative coin “Ivan Mocan – 100 years from birth”, offered by the First Deputy Governor, Mr. Munteanu, from a fund created personally by him, following the initiative launched at the beginning of the current year.
In his speech before the academia and the students, Mr. Munteanu underlined that the solemnity of the event aimed to appreciate young researchers. However, the message is much broader and refers to the scientific perspective of the financial-banking topic. “I am glad that this field has the chance to stay a subject of public interest, due to the joint efforts of professors and students who confirm their competences in development on a daily basis. The National Bank shows openness in supporting the researchers conducted by students through the partnership with the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova and the agreement signed by both parties in 2018.”
The First Deputy Governor, Mr. Munteanu, mentioned the long collaboration between the National Bank and the AESM, specifying that in 2019, 11 students and one professor conducted their internships at the NBM. “Through the Partnership Agreement, the National Bank confirms its openness to participate in researches, projects and actions of common interest, by providing methodical, organizational and information support in the development of didactic and extracurricular activities for the students of AESM”, added the First Deputy Governor of the central bank.
Mr. Munteanu also spoke about the history of the Moldovan currency (Moldovan leu), and stories from the experience of the central bank’s team, where he is a member since the introduction of the national currency. Therefore, those present learned about the challenges of that period, about the enthusiasm and dedication of the employees of the NBM in their activities, by using the most simple equipment and applications of those times, and about today’s modern approaches.
