In 2021, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 1 699,35 million. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 51,02 million and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to US$ 1 715,57 million. The international investment position recorded US$ -5 218,42 million, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 8 765,61 million.

2021

In 2020, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 892,51 million. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 65,67 million and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to US$ 1 042,13 million. The international investment position recorded US$ -5 428,24 million, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 8 437,71 million.

2020

In 2019, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 1 119,07 million. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 49,88 million and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to US$ 1 141,02 million. The international investment position recorded - US$ 4 985,71 million, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 7 416,08 million.

2019

In 2018, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 1,211.37 million. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 35.94 million and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to US$ 1,185.40 million. The international investment position recorded a net debit of US$ 4,198.10 million at the end of 2018, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 7,464.65 million.

2018

In 2017, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 562,07 million, double as compared to 2016. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 21,35 million and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to US$ 507,61 million. The international investment position recorded a net debit of US$ 3 249,85 million at the end of 2017, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 6 964,29 million.

2017

In 2016, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to US$ 285.58 million, down by 38.9% as compared to 2015. The capital account registered a deficit of US$ 20.79 million and the financial account recorded a net inflow amounting to US$ 214.56 million. The international investment position recorded a net debit of US$ 3,550.57 million at the end of 2016, while the gross external debt amounted to US$ 6,235.23 million.

2016

In 2015, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to USD 414.84 million, the capital account recorded a surplus of USD 22.88 million, and the financial account recorded a net capital inflow amounting to USD 391.96 million. The international investment position remained net debit and amounted to USD -5,654.17 million, while the external debt reached USD 6,345.43 million.

2015

In 2014, the current account of the balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova recorded a deficit amounting to USD 564.35 million, the capital account balance recorded a surplus of USD 94.54 million, and the financial account  recorded a net inflow amounting to USD 563.66 million. The international investment position remained net debit and amounted to USD 5,598.52 million, while the external debt reached USD 6,570.25 million.

In 2013, the revival of the international relations of the Republic of Moldova was driven mainly by the national economic growth (real GDP increased by 8.9 percent) and by the positive economic climate in major partner countries.

2014

The balance of payments of the Republic of Moldova was affected in 2012 by a number of factors, both endogenous and exogenous. The winter frost and the summer drought of 2012, by endamaging agriculture, have influenced the external trade, along with the slumping demand in European countries and the increase in world prices of food and oil.
