Anca Dragu at the meeting with her counterpart from Ukraine: I express my deep concern about the impact of the war on the civilian population

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, and her counterpart in Kiev, Andriy Pyshnyy, held a meeting in Washington, where the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are taking place.

The Governors of the two central banks addressed a number of current issues related to macroeconomic developments and the objectives in supervising and ensuring the stability of financial sectors. A particular topic of discussion was the implementation of Western sanctions against Russia following the war in Ukraine and the application of international standards on preventing the use of the financial system for money laundering and terrorist financing.

The meeting also highlighted the interest of both sides to exchange experience and collaborate in the preparations for EU accession, as well as in the area of business continuity and convergence.

In the context of the discussions, Anca Dragu expressed deep preoccupation about the war in Ukraine and, in particular, concern about its impact on the civilian population. The Governor of the NBM stated her firm belief that international support provided to Ukraine is an endorsement of democratic values and fundamental freedoms.

During the talks, Anca Dragu invited Andriy Pyshnyy to attend the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Constituency meeting, which will take place in July in Chisinau.
