National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.
National Bank shall have the exclusive right to issue on the territory of the Republic of Moldova banknotes and coins as legal tender, as well as commemorative and jubilee banknotes and coins as legal tender and for numismatic purposes.
National Bank is exclusively responsible for the licencing, supervision and regulation of financial institutions activity.
National Bank of Moldova acts as banker and fiscal agent of the State and shall receive from state bodies economic and financial information and documents, which are necessary for carrying out its tasks.

National Bank of Moldova is an autonomous public legal entity and is responsible to the Parliament.
National Bank shall inform the public on the monetary policy strategy on the results of the macroeconomic analysis, the evolution of the financial market and on statistics, including with regard to monetary supply, crediting, balance of payments and the state of the foreign exchange market.
National Bank of Moldova is responsable for the compilation of the balance of payments, international investment position and the statistics of the external debt of the Republic of Moldova.

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) announces the pre-selection of graphic design specialists to execute graphic designs of jubilee and commemorative coins and banknotes to be issued by the central bank. Selected candidates will be included in the List of Graphic Design Professionals cooperating with the National Bank on numismatic projects.
Both individuals and legal entities, including from outside the Republic of Moldova, specialising in graphics and design are eligible to participate in the preselection. Candidates will have to submit at least one graphic design dedicated to the commemoration of 25 years of the Moldovan leu. Besides, optionally, candidates may present designs dedicated to any notorious personality in Moldovan history and culture or to a historical / architectural monument (maximum 3 design drafts).
Design drafts will be examined and evaluated by a commission consisting of the NBM’s representatives, based on the following criteria: originality, creativity, coherence of design elements, fabrication feasibility. Participants are invited to submit their Curriculum Vitae along with design portfolios (drawings, sketches, personal webpage, etc.).
Design drafts along with the requested information shall be submitted in a sealed envelope with inscription "Numismatic design contest" until 2:00 pm, 17 September 2018, to the National Bank of Moldova at the following address: office 143, 1, Blvd. Grigore Vieru, Chisinau, MD-2005, Republic of Moldova, or by e-mail at consultare@bnm.md
Later, selected candidates will be included in the NBM’s List of graphic design specialists and will be able to collaborate with the NBM on future numismatic projects. Designers will receive honoraria ranging between 5,000 and 10,000 Moldovan lei for each design approved by the NBM. Besides, the designers’ names will be promoted on the NBM’s website and in social networks. Upon signing a contract with the NBM, each selected designer will have to confirm the lack of a criminal record. Graphic artists and designers who have already collaborated with the NBM will be included on the list by default.
The first commemorative coin was issued in 1996 and was dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova. Currently, the NBM’s collection includes 130 commemorative and jubilee coins and banknotes from the following series: "Historical Events", "Celebrities", "The Alley of Classics in the Public Garden Stephen the Great", "Famous Women", "The Red Book of the Republic of Moldova", "Sacred Sites", "Holidays, Culture, Traditions", "Science and Innovation", "Manor Houses", "Sports" and "Monuments of Moldova".
As a rule, jubilee and commemorative coins are fabricated of gold or silver.
