National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.
National Bank shall have the exclusive right to issue on the territory of the Republic of Moldova banknotes and coins as legal tender, as well as commemorative and jubilee banknotes and coins as legal tender and for numismatic purposes.

The financial education event “The Road of Money” has reached its 4th edition and is organized by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) within the project “Learn! Give sense to money”.
The event will take place on 28 October and is intended for pupils and students interested in financial subjects and the advantages this knowledge offer in a modern world.
The journey will begin in the exhibition hall of the National Bank, where visitors will be able to commend the wide collection of commemorative and jubilee coins issued by it, as well as coins of other countries. Visitors will learn the history of the Moldovan leu and the way money gets into the economy, then discover the safety features of our national currency.
Next, each group will visit a licensed bank in order to find out what it is and how it works and the reason a citizen or the economy need a bank. There also will be simulating situations where the participants will need to make financial decisions meant to a better management of their own money.
The event will take place on the occasion of the International Savings Day, which is celebrated each year on 31 October.
Access to the NBM will be based on lists drawn up in advance for groups of up to 30 people, aged over 12 years. Students will be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for the safety of the minors during the trip. Requests can be submitted until 26 October 2022, 4 p.m., to the email address edufin@bnm.md.
The project “Learn! Give sense to money” was launched by the National Bank of Moldova and the Independent Analytical Center “Expert-Grup” in March 2019. The project aims to increase awareness of the main concepts and financial-banking products among young people, necessary to make right decisions in managing our own income.
