National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

National Bank of Moldova is responsable for the compilation of the balance of payments, international investment position and the statistics of the external debt of the Republic of Moldova.

În luna august 2014, gradul de acoperire a cererii nete de valută străină din partea agenţilor economici prin oferta netă de valută străină de la persoanele fizice a constituit 100.4 la sută, comparativ cu 97.5 la sută în luna iulie 2014. Acesta este cel mai înalt grad de acoperire înregistrat de la începutul anului curent. În aceste condiții, cursul mediu de schimb al monedei naționale față de dolarul SUA s-a apreciat cu 1.3 la sută comparativ cu cel mediu înregistrat în luna iulie 2014.
Deși oferta netă de valută străină de la persoanele fizice s-a micșorat în raport cu iulie 2014 cu 16.4 la sută, aceasta a reușit să acopere cererea netă de valută străină din partea persoanelor juridice, care a înregistrat o reducere lunară de 18.8 la sută.

În ceea ce priveşte structura valutară a ofertei nete de valută străină de la persoanele fizice, ponderea majoritară i-a revenit rublei rusești (47.2 la sută comparativ cu 44.7 la sută în iulie 2014), fiind urmată de moneda euro (39.3 la sută comparativ cu 36.6 la sută în iulie 2014) şi de dolarul SUA (12.6 la sută comparativ cu 18.1 la sută în iulie 2014).
