National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.
National Bank shall have the exclusive right to issue on the territory of the Republic of Moldova banknotes and coins as legal tender, as well as commemorative and jubilee banknotes and coins as legal tender and for numismatic purposes.

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) puts into circulation ten commemorative coins as means of payment for numismatic purposes, starting with 28 December 2018.
Therefore, the series “Alley of Classics” from “Stefan cel Mare” Public Garden of Chisinau was supplemented with the coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary since the death of the writer, poet, translator, and playwright, Constantin Negruzzi. The coin bears the effigy of the personality and was minted in gold and silver. The gold coin has a face value of MDL 100 and a circulation of 100 copies. The silver coin has a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 200 copies.
Other three coins minted in silver in a circulation of 250 copies each, belong to the series “Personalities”. These coins are dedicated to the following event: the 90th anniversary since the birth of Ion Druta, writer, poet, playwright and literary historian; the 150th anniversary from the birth of Mihail Berezovschi, ordained priest, who later worked as a titular professor at the Archiepiscopal Cathedral, and the centenary anniversary since the birth of George Meniuc, essayist, poet, writer, journalist and translator from the Republic of Moldova.
A silver coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the birth of Ada Zevin, plastic artist from Bessarabia, supplements the series “Famous Women”. The coin has a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 300 copies.
The series “Monasteries of Moldova” was supplemented with the coin dedicated to “St. Theodore of Tyre Monastery from Chisinau” (colloquially known as Ciuflea Monastery). The coin continues the tradition of displaying this type of local historical monuments of architecture and has the face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 300 copies.
Moreover, the collection of the series “Lordly Houses” added a silver coin with the nominal value of MDL 50, which represents the Mansion of Zamfirache Ralli, former residence of the boyar at the beginning of the 19th century. The coin has a circulation of 300 copies.
The series “Science and Innovation”, which was launched last year, includes two new commemorative coins minted in silver, with a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 200 copies each. The coins are dedicated to the centenary anniversary from the birth of Ivan Mocan, habilitated doctor in economic sciences, professor, who contributed to the training of the most qualified staff in the field of finances and banking, and to the 80th anniversary from the birth of Mihai Marinciuc, an associate professor with the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Moldova, a notorious specialist, promoter and organizer of education in the field of physics.
Finally, the last new coin put into circulation as of today, 28 December 2018, is the coin “Danubian Falcon” (Falco cherrug) from the series “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”. The emission of the coin is a message to modernity about the protection of endangered species of plants and animals. The coin is minted in silver, has a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 300 copies.
The commemorative and jubilee coins are packed in transparent methacrylate capsules and special boxes, accompanied by certificates of authenticity in Romanian and English.
