National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

Guvernatoarea Băncii Naționale a Moldovei, Anca Dragu, a discutat cu studenții de la Universitatea „Alecu Russo” din Bălți despre inflație și rolul băncii centrale.
La prelegere au participat peste o sută de studenți. Anca Dragu a descris activitatea și rolul jucat de băncile centrale în economie și a povestit, într-o manieră profesionistă și explicită în același timp, despre ce reprezintă inflația, ce o determină și care este arsenalul de instrumente utilizat de băncile centrale în temperarea acesteia.
De asemenea, guvernatoarea BNM s-a referit la importanța educației financiare, menționând că pentru orice bancă centrală este un mare avantaj când cetățenii înțeleg de ce cresc ratele și inflația – tendințe frecvent întâlnite în ultimii ani pe fundalul crizelor multiple la nivel global.
„E nevoie să avem educație financiară care să înceapă din școală, tocmai pentru ca toată lumea să înțeleagă de ce statul ia anumite decizii de natură financiară. BNM este o instituție publică și rolul nostru este să ne asigurăm că în zona pieței financiare lucrurile sunt sigure pentru cetățeni,” a menționat Anca Dragu.
Referindu-se la inflație, guvernatoarea BNM a explicat care sunt sursele externe care au influențe asupra proceselor inflaționiste dintr-o țară, precum și cum sunt legate între ele nivelul inflației și caracterul specific al unei economii.
Într-o atmosferă interactivă de dialog deschis și captivant, studenții au avut posibilitatea să adreseze guvernatoarei mai multe întrebări, abordând în special subiectul inflației, semnele distinctive ale iminenței unei crize financiare și măsurile pentru pregătirea răspunsului adecvat. De asemenea, tinerii s-au arătat interesați de prioritățile mandatului de guvernator, inclusiv pentru consolidarea încrederii în banca centrală. Guvernatoarea a menționat că independența și integritatea BNM sunt esențiale pe agenda sa.
Aceasta a fost prima lecție publică în cadrul Campaniei Naționale de Educație Financiară cu genericul „Educație financiară pentru toți”, realizată de Banca Națională a Moldovei, în parteneriat cu Centrul Analitic Independent „Expert-Grup”, cu suportul Programului USAID „Reforme Instituționale și Structurale în Moldova (MISRA).
Campania este adresată tuturor cetățenilor, indiferent de vârstă și ocupație și își propune să intensifice eforturile de educație financiară în Republica Moldova.
