Governor Anca Dragu offered to the Petrache family the commemorative coin dedicated to the famous singer Ștefan Petrache

On the occasion of the issuance of the commemorative coin dedicated to the famous singer Ștefan Petrache, the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, received today at the bank's headquarters the visit of the great artist's family. In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, Ms. Dragu offered the coin to the Petrache family as an expression of high appreciation for the singer’s career and his contribution to enriching our musical heritage.

In recognition of his exceptional contribution, the National Bank of Moldova honored Stefan Petrache by issuing, on 27 December 2024, a commemorative coin to mark the 75th anniversary of his birth. The coin is part of the "Personalities" series, dedicated to outstanding figures of the Republic of Moldova in art, literature, science, and sports.

During the meeting, Ms. Dragu mentioned that the inclusion of Stefan Petrache in this series of personalities is a confirmation of the importance of music and artists in shaping the cultural identity of the Republic of Moldova: "Through this coin, we not only recognize his legacy but also pass on to future generations our respect and appreciation for the great creators of this nation".

The NBM Governor also noted that by issuing jubilee and commemorative coins, the National Bank of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to celebrating authentic cultural values and preserving the memory of those who have built the national identity.

Addressing the members of the Petrache family, Ms. Dragu added: "With emotion and deep respect, I offer you this commemorative coin as a symbol of our gratitude and admiration. It is a gesture through which we wish to keep alive the memory of a personality who left an indelible mark on our culture".

Ștefan Petrache's musical career began in 1966, alongside the band "Noroc", one of the most popular groups of the time. Later, he became a lead singer in several prominent bands, including "Plai" (1982-1987). For his valuable contribution, Ștefan Petrache was awarded the "Order of the Republic". The great artist passed away on 13 January 2020.
