Anca Dragu Addresses the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova: Education and Research Play Essential Roles in Moldova's Economic Future

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is set to enhance its focus on research and collaboration with the academic environment, recognizing these aspects as crucial for advancing the economic and financial-banking policy of the Republic of Moldova. The NBM Governor, Anca Dragu, expressed this commitment during today's meeting with the management and professors of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (AESM).

“This visit underscores my appreciation for the academic environment and acknowledges the imperative role of education worldwide. Education is the key factor between a progressing country, a developing one, and a country facing stagnation” mentioned Anca Dragu.

The Governor further highlighted that in the upcoming period, the NBM will enhance its focus on research and collaboration with academia: “Several meetings with specialists from various fields will be organized to discuss the economic trajectory, including debates on monetary policy decisions and addressing the needs perceived by society”.

The openness of the NBM to new cooperation initiatives was welcomed by AESM professors. Previous agreements between the National Bank and AESM have offered students the opportunity to participate in training and events alongside central bank representatives, as stated by AESM representatives.

During the meeting, reference was made of the “School of Modern Finance” program, a collaborative effort between the NBM, the National Bank of Romania, and the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest. Launched last summer, the program is aimed at master’s and final-year students from AESM, emphasizing the commitment to the professional development of young people and the deepening of financial and banking knowledge in line with European Union standards.
