The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, gave a public lesson on financial education today at the “Aristotel” Republican Theoretical High School, an institution that brings together the most talented students from the Republic of Moldova. Held at the beginning of the new school year, the event marked the start of an important stage in the lives of high school students: the years in which independence is built, along with the responsibilities and decisions that it entails.
At the beginning of the lesson, Ms. Anca Dragu emphasised that today's young people are growing up in a world where technology and the economy are evolving at an accelerated pace: "You are the generation of a digital era, marked by rapid innovation and transformation. You have the flexibility to adapt, the curiosity to explore, and the energy to learn. Financial education is the resource that helps you better understand the economy, make wise decisions, and build a prosperous future for yourselves, your community, and your country."
The Governor of the central bank addressed, in accessible and interactive language, topical issues such as the Republic of Moldova's accession to SEPA, highlighting the benefits of integration into the European payments area; the expansion of cashless payments and increased transaction security; MIA Instant Payments, which simplifies transfers between consumers and businesses, as well as other topics related to European integration and the country's economic development.
The students actively participated in the dialogue, asking questions about money management, responsible investing, and how global trends influence the local economy. The moment gained energy through the young people's interest and desire to understand the economy beyond theory, in everyday life.
Ms. Anca Dragu encouraged the high school students to view financial education as a path to responsible financial decisions: "By mastering the art of managing your money, you will learn not only how to save or invest, but also how to build your own path to financial independence. Every responsible financial choice adds value to your path to prosperity."
The event concluded with a first: Governor Anca Dragu was the first official invited to attend the presentation of an innovation created by students—an interactive table designed for the study hall. The concept proposes a modern educational model, without books and notebooks, where the learning process takes place exclusively through a phone connected to a digital desk. The innovation is currently in the testing phase and reflects young people's interest in technological solutions applicable to the education of the future.
The Governor of the NBM praised the innovative spirit of the high school students and the support provided by their teachers. “The innovations created by students show that the education of the future is built on the courage to think creatively and freely and on the integration of technology into the learning process,” said Ms. Anca Dragu.
At the same time, the event featured a festive moment: the Governor of the NBM was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the “Aristotel” Republican Theoretical High School. In return, the National Bank presented the institution with the commemorative silver coin "Mihai Eminescu," recently launched on the occasion of Romanian Language Day and in the context of the Eminescu Year, as a sign of respect for educational and cultural values.
