Governor Anca Dragu participated in the round table: „The National Bank of Romania’s treasury in Moscow – a century-old problem”

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, participated today in the round table on "The National Bank of Romania's treasury in Moscow - a century-old problem". The event is part of a series of events including an exhibition at the National History Museum of Moldova, open until December 5.

At the event, Anca Dragu stated that, in addition to fulfilling specific objectives, it is the duty of central banks to facilitate knowledge and bring to the attention of citizens the national cultural and historical values: " Even more so, when historical events are connected to our institution, the message acquires additional dimensions of involvement and responsibility".

The governor of the National Bank of Moldova added that Romania's treasury, sent to Russia in 1916, marks a sad moment in national history: "For over a century, the Romanian authorities have been looking for solutions to recover the treasury, but the efforts have not brought results."

In her speech, Anca Dragu, recalled that this issue is not just an economic one, but one of justice and historical dignity. The recovery of the treasury would not only represent a material reparation, but also an official recognition of a painful chapter for Romanians: "This cause continues to be supported by different institutions, historians, researchers and remains an important objective".

During the event, the representatives of the National Bank of Romania provided unprecedented and spectacular information about a unique episode in modern history, in which a country's monetary reserve was entrusted to an ally, and the undertaken guarantees and commitments were not respected, although they were in accordance with all international norms and customs of all eras.
