The NBM announces the selection of the best designers to execute the designs of jubilee and commemorative coins and banknotes

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) announces the pre-selection of graphic design specialists to execute graphic designs of jubilee and commemorative coins and banknotes to be issued by the central bank. Selected candidates will be included in the List of Graphic Design Professionals cooperating with the National Bank on numismatic projects.

Both individuals and legal entities, including from outside the Republic of Moldova, specialising in graphics and design are eligible to participate in the preselection. Candidates will have to submit at least one graphic design dedicated to the commemoration of 25 years of the Moldovan leu. Besides, optionally, candidates may present designs dedicated to any notorious personality in Moldovan history and culture or to a historical / architectural monument (maximum 3 design drafts).

Design drafts will be examined and evaluated by a commission consisting of the NBM’s representatives, based on the following criteria: originality, creativity, coherence of design elements, fabrication feasibility. Participants are invited to submit their Curriculum Vitae along with design portfolios (drawings, sketches, personal webpage, etc.).

Design drafts along with the requested information shall be submitted in a sealed envelope with inscription "Numismatic design contest" until 2:00 pm, 17 September 2018, to the National Bank of Moldova at the following address: office 143, 1, Blvd. Grigore Vieru, Chisinau, MD-2005, Republic of Moldova, or by e-mail at consultare@bnm.md

Later, selected candidates will be included in the NBM’s List of graphic design specialists and will be able to collaborate with the NBM on future numismatic projects. Designers will receive honoraria ranging between 5,000 and 10,000 Moldovan lei for each design approved by the NBM. Besides, the designers’ names will be promoted on the NBM’s website and in social networks. Upon signing a contract with the NBM, each selected designer will have to confirm the lack of a criminal record. Graphic artists and designers who have already collaborated with the NBM will be included on the list by default.

The first commemorative coin was issued in 1996 and was dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova. Currently, the NBM’s collection includes 130 commemorative and jubilee coins and banknotes from the following series: "Historical Events", "Celebrities", "The Alley of Classics in the Public Garden Stephen the Great", "Famous Women", "The Red Book of the Republic of Moldova", "Sacred Sites", "Holidays, Culture, Traditions", "Science and Innovation", "Manor Houses", "Sports" and "Monuments of Moldova".

As a rule, jubilee and commemorative coins are fabricated of gold or silver.
