NBM releases new commemorative coins

National Bank of Moldova is issuing 2 new commemorative coins on 9 December 2011 as legal tender and for numismatic purpose.

One of the coins renders the image of a group of carol singers and it is issued to promote the traditions about the winter holidays, dating from ancient times. It will complete the commemorative series “Holidays, culture, traditions of Moldova” that was launched in 2007 and included four coins so far.

The second coin – “Spoonbill” - is dedicated to this bird species, which is currently in the process of extinction. The issue in question will complete the commemorative series “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”, which was launched in 2001 and includes nine other coins so far.

Each new coin is minted in silver, weighs 16.5 grams, with the nominal value of 50 lei and of a proof quality, and with a circulation of 1000 and 500 copies respectively.

The commemorative coins, packed in transparent methacrylate capsules and presentation boxes, will be accompanied by certificates of authenticity, written in Romanian and English and signed by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

The commemorative coins are available for sale through licensed banks at a price of up to 3
percent above that set by the National Bank of Moldova.
