Octavian Armașu met with EU officials to discuss macroeconomic developments and the progress of the European integration process

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Octavian Armașu, had a meeting with the representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) and the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.

Discussions focused on the evolution of Moldova’s macroeconomic situation, monetary policy and its outlook for the coming years, the progress of financial sector reforms, and the NBM’s assumptions of some non-banking duties.

The issues related to the advancement of Moldova's European integration process were also discussed. The NBM representatives present at the discussions mentioned the measures to be taken to meet the accession criteria.

In this context, Octavian Armașu reiterated his firm commitment to continue efforts to prepare the Moldovan banking and non-banking sector for EU membership.

During the meeting, the continuous and valuable assistance provided by the European partners in strengthening the capacities of the National Bank and the entire financial-banking system of the Republic of Moldova was appreciated, especially in the context of the European Commission's decision to recommend the opening of EU accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova.
