National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.
Financial stability is achieved by strengthening the resilience of the financial system, limiting the contagion effect and reducing the accumulation of systemic risks, thus contributing to the sustainability of the financial sector and economic growth.
National Bank shall have the exclusive right to issue on the territory of the Republic of Moldova banknotes and coins as legal tender, as well as commemorative and jubilee banknotes and coins as legal tender and for numismatic purposes.
National Bank of Moldova acts as banker and fiscal agent of the State and shall receive from state bodies economic and financial information and documents, which are necessary for carrying out its tasks.
National Bank shall inform the public on the monetary policy strategy on the results of the macroeconomic analysis, the evolution of the financial market and on statistics, including with regard to monetary supply, crediting, balance of payments and the state of the foreign exchange market.
National Bank of Moldova is responsable for the compilation of the balance of payments, international investment position and the statistics of the external debt of the Republic of Moldova.

Banca Națională a Moldovei organizează astăzi, 21 martie 2022, un eveniment de deschidere a Săptămânii Internaționale de Educație Financiară (Global Money Week), care a ajuns la cea de a zecea aniversare. Aceasta este marcată în lumea întreagă și atrage în fiecare an tot mai mulți participanți la diferite niveluri ale societății.
Astfel, la evenimentul preconizat de banca centrală vor lua parte reprezentanți ai instituțiilor publice, ai societății civile, elevi și studenți din Republica Moldova, parteneri în realizarea proiectelor de educație financiară de la noi și de peste hotare.
De asemenea, prima zi a Săptămânii Internaționale de Educație Financiară va fi însemnată prin încheierea unui Acord de parteneriat între Banca Națională și Ministerul Finanțelor al Republicii Moldova. Conjugarea eforturilor în acest sens vine în sprijinul cetățenilor pentru a le oferi informații de care au nevoie zi cu zi în familiarizarea și interacțiunea cu mediul financiar.
„Sunt tot mai mulți doritori de a cunoaște ce înseamnă conceptele financiare și este de înțeles acest lucru. An de an, se produc schimbări pe plan local și cel internațional în toate domeniile. Astăzi, trăim o nouă realitate, cu mari provocări și cu noi încercări, care ne determină să ne adaptăm deciziile la actualele evoluții și tendințe. În Republica Moldova reformele au adus progrese în sectorul bancar, pe care astăzi îl avem puternic, stabil și bine capitalizat și, cu certitudine, ne propunem să păstrăm și chiar să îmbunătățim ceea ce am obținut. În acest sens, Banca Națională a Moldovei întreprinde măsurile necesare pentru a asigura stabilitatea financiară a țării noastre ”, afirmă Octavian Armașu, guvernator al Băncii Naționale.
În cadrul evenimentului menționat, va avea loc un atelier de instruire on-line (ZOOM) pentru tinerii interesați de subiectul financiar, care va fi organizat în baza proiectului de educației financiară „Dă sens banilor” realizat de Banca Națională în parteneriat cu Centrul Analitic Independent „Expert-Grup”.
Astfel, participanții vor afla sau își vor aprofunda cunoștințele referitoare la sistemul financiar din țara noastră, drepturile specifice ale utilizatorilor de plată ș.a.
Un alt atelier de instruire va fi organizat pentru studenții de la facultatea de jurnalism și științele comunicării a Universității de Stat din Moldova, în colaborare cu Clubul Presei Economice.
Banca Națională a Moldovei se alătură în fiecare an inițiativei Global Money Week , la care până în prezent au aderat 176 de țări.
