Anca Dragu addressing high school students: We encourage young people to study economics and engage in the country’s development

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, met today with students from „Aristotel" Republican Theoretical Lyceum to discuss what a central bank means, monetary phenomena, and the functioning of the economy.

The event took place in a friendly educational atmosphere, proving an opportunity to delve into complex issues using simple and accessible language. Anca Dragu talked to high school students about the objectives of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) and the experiences of other central banks, explaining the meaning of inflation, as well as how supply and demand along with competition operate. Eager to learn more about the financial system, the students were keen to understand the reasons a central bank should be independent and transparent.

“Transparency in the central bank is crucial. Independence is accompanied by accountability, and autonomy, authority, and responsibility are derived from transparency. Trust is hard-earned, and to maintain it, transparency is indispensable”, stressed Anca Dragu.

The NBM Governor also highlighted the need for debates and research analysis, encouraging students to study economics and become involved in the development of the country.

In response, the students talked with enthusiasm about their ambitious projects, expressing their keen interest in learning more about the activities of the central bank and the financial sector.

Concluding the meeting, the students awarded Anca Dragu with a diploma of acknowledgement for her professionalism, openness to efficient communication and collaboration in activities dedicated to the financial education of young people.

The collaboration between the National Bank of Moldova and “Aristotle” Lyceum began in 2017, when students were invited to participate in financial education activities conducted by the central bank. Based on this collaboration, a partnership agreement was concluded in 2023.

„Aristotle” Republican Theoretical Lyceum is an innovative educational institution, bringing together the best students in the Republic of Moldova.
