Analysis of the volume of cash operations in domestic currency for January – June 2023



In January - June 2023, the volume of cumulative cash receipts in licensed banks exceeded the volume of cumulative cash releases in the banking system  by MDL 102.8 million.

The volume of cumulative cash receipts in licensed banks in January – June 2023, decreased by MDL 1,461.8 million (-1.8%) compared to the same period last year and amounted to MDL 81,142.3 million. The decrease in the volume of cash receipts was mainly due to the decrease in receipts from the sale of foreign currency to individuals by MDL 2,748.7 million (-42.6%), amounting to MDL 3,703.9 million, which is the equivalent of USD  201.3 million (Chart 1).

At the same time, receipts on current and deposit accounts of individuals increased by MDL 1,266.0 million (+16.1%), amounting to MDL 9,137.0 million. The receipts from the sale of consumer goods (regardless of the sales channel) also had a significant impact, increasing by MDL 1,114.3 million (+2.6%), amounting to MDL 44,052.1 million.

The volume of cash releases from licensed banks vaults in January – June 2023 decreased by MDL 455.0 million (-0.6%) compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to MDL 81,039.5 million (Chart 2).

This evolution was determined, on the one hand, by the decrease in releases for other purposes by MDL 3,150.5 million (-23.5%), cash releases in the form of loans to individuals by MDL 1,069.9 million (-44.8%), and on the other hand by the increase in withdrawals from ATMs by MDL 4,463.0 million (+24.7%).

In January - June 2023 cash releases for the purchase of currency from individuals decreased by MDL 127.3 million (-0.6%) up to the level of MDL 19,689.2 million (equivalent to USD  1,070.3 million).
