Central banks of Chisinau and Bucharest strengthen their relations in the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union

A delegation from the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), led by Governor Anca Dragu, is on a working visit to Bucharest on 25 - 26 January.

The first discussions took place at the National Bank of Romania (NBR) with Governor Mugur Isărescu and the central bank's Twinning project team in Bucharest.

The two governors praised the fruitful cooperation within the Twinning project, expressing their commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to carry out more joint projects to achieve the reforms needed to continue Moldova's European path.

The management of the NBR reiterated its openness and willingness to support the NBM in various areas through the exchange of experience and technical assistance to align the financial regulatory and supervisory framework with EU standards.

During the visit, new perspectives for cooperation were discussed across several dimensions, such as developing a framework for cooperation and exchanging information between the NBM and the NBR in the fields of bank resolution, international accounts, basic and applied research, and improving the regulatory framework and others.

The working visit concludes today with high-level meetings at the Financial Supervisory Authority, the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the Central Depository in Bucharest.

The NBM delegation includes the NBM First Deputy Governor, Vladimir Munteanu, and Deputy Governor, Constantin Schendra.

The purpose of the visit is to learn best practices in the financial and banking sector in the context of Moldova's accession to the European Union.
