NBM Deputy Governor, Mihnea Constantinescu, holds bilateral talks in Vienna: The Republic of Moldova attracts interest from international investors

Mihnea Constantinescu, the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, held a bilateral meeting with representatives from J.P. Morgan, one of the largest global financial institutions, during the Central and Eastern Europe Forum in Vienna.

The discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen the Republic of Moldova's financial ties with international markets, as well as the role of the NBM in supporting the development of the domestic capital market. Priorities for modernising financial infrastructure were also addressed, including connecting the central depository to regional platforms, facilitating access for foreign investors, and deepening transparency and digitalisation within the financial ecosystem.

The Deputy Governor highlighted the significant progress made by the Republic of Moldova in recent years, which has led to increased interest from the international community. "The improvement of the sovereign rating to “BB-B”, the widespread adoption of the MIA Instant Payments system, and the country's accession to SEPA demonstrate that the Republic of Moldova is on a strong path of stability and modernisation. All these developments send a positive message to international investors: we are a serious emerging market, undergoing rapid transformation and increasingly well-connected to the European financial sphere," the NBM official emphasised.

The NBM delegation, led by Governor Anca Dragu, was in Vienna to participate in the Central and Eastern Europe Forum, which took place from 13-14 January 2026. The Forum brings together central bank governors, finance ministers, other government officials, representatives of international financial institutions, global investors and private sector leaders annually, serving as the main platform for dialogue, coordination, and strategy on financing, investment, and economic stability in the region.
