NBM Governor Anca Dragu had a bilateral meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva

On the sidelines of the high-level international conference organised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Croatian National Bank in Dubrovnik, the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, held discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF.

The discussions focused on the ongoing cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the IMF in support of the economic and financial reforms necessary for the country’s modernisation and its closer integration with the European Union. The NBM Governor expressed her appreciation for the IMF's support in the process of transforming the Moldovan economy into a more competitive and resilient one.

"The reforms we are implementing with the support of the IMF are helping us build a more competitive, resilient economy that is better prepared for EU integration. It is a process directly aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens", stated Anca Dragu.

During the meeting, the importance of the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP), recently conducted by the IMF and the World Bank, was also emphasised. This program supports the strengthening of the banking system and the alignment of the Republic of Moldova with the highest international standards.

The Governor of the NBM noted that all this progress contributes to the fulfilment of the measures within the National Program for Accession to the European Union and represents a solid foundation for accelerating the integration process. The focus was placed on the benefits of reforms for citizens: from stability and financial protection to increased opportunities and a better quality of life.

Ms. Anca Dragu is in Dubrovnik from 29 to 30 May 2025, where she is participating in the high-level international conference organised by the IMF and the National Bank of Croatia. The event brings together economic and financial leaders from Central and South-Eastern Europe, providing an important platform for dialogue on strategic reforms, economic resilience and European integration in a constantly evolving global context.
