The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) puts into circulation ten commemorative coins as means of payment for numismatic purposes, starting with 28 December 2018.

Therefore, the series “Alley of Classics” from “Stefan cel Mare” Public Garden of Chisinau was supplemented with the coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary since the death of the writer, poet, translator, and playwright, Constantin Negruzzi. The coin bears the effigy of the personality and was minted in gold and silver. The gold coin has a face value of MDL 100 and a circulation of 100 copies. The silver coin has a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 200 copies.

Other three coins minted in silver in a circulation of 250 copies each, belong to the series “Personalities”. These coins are dedicated to the following event: the 90th anniversary since the birth of Ion Druta, writer, poet, playwright and literary historian; the 150th anniversary from the birth of Mihail Berezovschi, ordained priest, who later worked as a titular professor at the Archiepiscopal Cathedral, and the centenary anniversary since the birth of George Meniuc, essayist, poet, writer, journalist and translator from the Republic of Moldova.

The series “Science and Innovation”, which was launched last year, includes two new commemorative coins minted in silver, with a face value of MDL 50 and a circulation of 200 copies each. Finally, the last new coin put into circulation as of today, 28 December 2018, is the coin “Danubian Falcon” (Falco cherrug) from the series “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”.
