First Deputy Governor of the NBM, Petru Rotaru, participated in the International Conference dedicated to Queen Marie

The First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Mr Petru Rotaru, attended today the International Conference "The Historical and Cultural Legacy of Queen Marie", organised by the National Museum of History of Moldova, in collaboration with the Handmade Art Academy of Bucharest.

The event brought together prominent figures from the fields of culture, history, and art, who highlighted Queen Marie’s contribution to Romanian cultural and identity heritage.

In his speech, Mr Petru Rotaru spoke about the launch in the numismatic circuit of the commemorative coin "Queen Marie of Romania – 150 years since birth" starting from 1st December 2025, a piece that will complete the "Personalities" series.

"This coin evokes the memory of an exceptional personality who dedicated herself to the realisation of the national ideal of the Great Union. Queen Marie is a symbol of courage, determination, and unity. Through such numismatic projects, the NBM keeps the memory of the past alive and strengthens the connection with the European community, which is built on common principles and ideals," emphasised the First Deputy Governor of the NBM.

The commemorative coin is minted in silver, has a nominal value of 100 lei, and a mintage of 750 units. The designer of the "Queen Marie of Romania – 150 years since birth" commemorative coin is the Romanian State Mint.

The prototype of this coin was exhibited at the National Museum of History of Moldova, as part of the "ROYAL" exhibition dedicated to Queen Marie, which brought to the forefront her image, aesthetic taste, affection for art, and public responsibility.
