National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

Comitetul executiv al Băncii Naționale a Moldovei (BNM) a adoptat, prin vot unanim, în cadrul ședinței extraordinare de astăzi, modificarea p.3 al Hotărârii din 20 martie 2020 cu privire la nivelul ratelor dobânzilor BNM și la norma rezervelor obligatorii. Astfel, norma rezervelor obligatorii în lei moldovenești și în valută neconvertibilă pentru perioada de aplicare a acestora 16 aprilie – 15 mai 2020 se stabilește în mărime de 34,0 la sută din baza de calcul.
Convocarea ședinței extraordinare a Comitetului executiv al BNM este condiționată de necesitatea aplicării unor măsuri de politică monetară capabile să atenueze parțial impactul efectelor generate de pandemia COVID-19 asupra economiei naționale.
Decizia vizează majorarea lichidităților disponibile pentru băncile licențiate, în vederea prevenirii riscului de lichiditate și consolidării stabilității sectorului bancar din Moldova. Urmare acestei decizii, lichiditățile disponibile în sectorul bancar vor crește cu circa 3.0 miliarde lei.
Totodată, diminuarea normei rezervelor obligatorii reprezintă o continuitate a măsurilor de politică monetară de echilibrare a normelor rezervelor obligatorii în contextul sporirii eficienței transmiterii impulsurilor monetare în sectorul real.
Banca Națională va monitoriza în continuare situația și, la necesitate, va veni cu măsuri pentru a menține nivelul suficient de lichiditate în sistemul bancar.
