NBM delegation advances strategic dialogues at IMF and WB meetings in Washington

The delegation of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), led by the Governor Anca Dragu, participated on 16 April 2024 in a series of strategic dialogs within the framework of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

The discussions focused on progress in the implementation of the current IMF programme, the reform agenda, stable monetary policy and effective anti-inflationary measures, all underlining the independence and strong governance of the NBM and the financial sustainability of the sector.

The Chisinau officials held meetings with high-level representatives of the IMF and the World Bank: Kenji Okamura, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, Alfred Kammer, Director of the European Department, IMF, Paul Hilbers, IMF Executive Director for Moldova, Eugene Rhuggenaath, WB Executive Director for Moldova, Antonella Bassani, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, as well as other influential representatives from the two international organisations.

Vital issues such as the adjustment of the macroeconomic framework, medium-term economic prospects, potential risks from global economic and geopolitical dynamics, and strengthening Moldova's position within the IMF were addressed during the discussions.

NBM Governor Anca Dragu reiterated that the development of Moldova's financial sector is an essential objective for sustainable economic growth and highlighted the country's commitment to meeting the criteria for accession to the European Union, promoting an agenda of reforms aimed at stability, democracy and prosperity.

The delegation from the Republic of Moldova also issued invitations to the IMF and WB Constituency meeting, which will take place in Chisinau on 10-12 July 2024.

The spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are an excellent platform for exchanging experiences and views on economic development and financial stability, bringing together officials from various countries and development partners.
